Mark 1:17 “Come ye after me.”
I find Chamber’s statements about the life
of a saint fascinating. He says, “In the life of a saint there is an amazing
wellspring of original life all the time; the Spirit of God is a well of water
springing up, perennially fresh. The saint realizes that it is God Who
engineers circumstances, consequently there is no whine, but a reckless abandon
to Jesus.”
I was raised to believe that Saints are
only those few people who were canonized by the Catholic Church. Evangelicals
teach that anyone who has yielded to the call of Christ is a Saint. What interests
me about Chambers’ words is that most of the people who have been sainted had a
reckless abandon for Jesus. They are always powerhouses of faith and people of
great humility. Most did not care for what this world had to offer them, but
only wanted to follow Jesus. They had servant’s hearts with deep and abiding
devotions to God. They truly lived these words of Chambers. Their overflowing
was from the Source.
Now I think of all who have yielded their
lives to Jesus, and call themselves Christians; in this I include myself. Do I
live truly believing that God engineers circumstances no matter what? Do I
believe that the way to be strong in every way is to be connected so deeply to
the Source that I am unshakable? Am I recklessly abandoned to Jesus? If I actually
were, instead of operating in my own selfish ways, what would those around me
experience? What would happen if every living saint turned to the Source fully
and completely? Just think about how transformative it would be for this
hurting world.
