Psalm 25:14 “The secret [friendship, RV] of
the Lord is with them that fear Him.”
Friendship requires reciprocation. Friends
listen to each other, sharing both joys and sorrows. If the reciprocation part
is lacking, it may be a far different kind of relationship. I certainly have
had some relationships over the years that were extremely lopsided. You know
the kind, when one person carries an entire history, and the other only has a
very surface knowledge. One person is all in, willingly jumping into the deep end
with their head barely above water, while the other person has little investment
and stays happily in the shallow end.
So we must contemplate, how is our relationship
with God? Do we only unburden ourselves to Him, or come equally to Him with our
joys? Do we listen to Him and seek to learn more about His word, strengthening our
relationship with him? Or are we only takers? Do we seek His council and will
for our lives, or are we merely complainers? Do we truly appreciate His love
for us? Is our relationship with God so deep that, as Chambers puts it, “We live
so much in consciousness of God that we do not need to ask what His will is,
because the thought of choosing any other will never occur to is”?
