Can you follow Jesus without the Holy Spirit? Peter and the other apostles followed Him for three years as a teacher without knowing who He truly was. Many people today do the same. They respect His teachings and, often times, adopt them into a blended theology or philosophy. The difference of depth of understanding and connection to the truth of Jesus' life is through the acceptance of Him as the Atonement; a yielding to the grace that is a gift to all. We cannot connect to the Divine by our own strength or power, it comes through an indwelling of the Holy Spirit through submission to God . It is as true now as it was for His followers over 2000 years ago.
Chambers says, "When we come to the end of ourselves, not in imagination but really, we are able to receive the Holy Spirit."
