Luke 18:31 “Behold, we go up to Jerusalem.”
Historically Jerusalem has always been a sacred
place, but it became hallowed ground because it is where Jesus spent the last
days of His life. This is the place He gave Himself to save the world. It is
here that He would fulfill the prophecies of old. John 6:38, “For I have come
down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of Him who sent me.” Jesus’
sole purpose was to accomplish His Father’s will.
If my ultimate goal is to be “Christ like”,
shouldn’t I be eager to do the Father’s will as well? Jesus was willing to do
this unto death; can I say the same? When I follow the path that God has laid out
before me, do I walk it in the fullness of faith? This takes full abandonment
and trust in my Savior, for He is always with me. If I let overthinking and questioning
get in the way, I may not be able to hear the leading of the Holy Spirit. Even
when I may not understand where God is taking me, if I surrender to Him
completely, I can trust that He is bringing me where I need to be. Chambers
writes, “The great thing to remember is that we go up to Jerusalem to fulfill
God’s purpose, not our own.”
Luke 22:42 “…yet not My will, but Yours be
done.”
