Revelation 3:10 “Because thou hast kept the
word of My patience.”
Do I have so much devotion and confidence
in my God that I will follow Him in any and every circumstance? Or do I
hesitate because I am not fully abandoned to Him? I love this illustration by
Chambers: “A saint’s life is in the hands of God like a bow and arrow in the
hands of an archer. God is aiming at something the saint cannot see, and He
stretches and strains, and every now and again the saint says—‘I cannot stand
anymore.’ God does not heed, He goes on stretching till His purpose is in
sight, then He lets fly.” Have you ever felt the strain before? I certainly
have. I would venture to say we are all collectively feeling it during this odd
period of time. We are all being stretched and strained in every way, and it is
painful and exhausting, but God is working out His purpose. All we need to do
is trust in Him and have patience. If I am devoted completely to Him, He will
give me the strength to endure.
Over the past several days, our country has
been having trust issues with many things. All you have to do is look on any
social media platform, or watch the talking heads of cable news, to be
overwhelmed with contradictions and conspiracy theories. People, unfortunately,
are looking for answers in the wrong places; we may never know the truth of this pandemic’s
origin, or what the cost to our world truly is or will be. The only truth that we can
count on is God’s word. We must look to it first, and compare all the
information that bombards us daily to its wisdom. Chambers’ words are so succinct:
“Trust yourself in God’s hands.” Is it easy to keep hope alive and have faith
during such a dark and confusing time? Certainly not if we are relying on our own
strength. We must put our lives, and the lives of those we love, into our
Savior’s hands, and trust His plan knowing fully that He is in control of all
things.
Two more profound quotes form Chambers
today are: “Faith is the heroic effort of your life; you fling yourself in
reckless confidence on God,” and, “The real meaning of eternal life is a life
that can face anything it has to face without wavering.”
I will approach this time in our world with
reckless confidence in God, which is honestly the safest thing I can do.
