The Bridegroom

3/25/2020
John 3:29 “The friend of the Bridegroom.”

Today, Chambers is telling us to not draw attention to ourselves as we witness to others, but instead to put total focus on Jesus. This is a call against a false sense of outward piety. He says, “A beautiful saint may be a hindrance if he does not present Jesus Christ but only what Christ has done for him.” We certainly should tell people of what God has done in our lives, but we are called to put our emphasis on the truth of the Gospel and, most importantly, Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins. True contrition, along with the receiving of this most precious of gifts, is the starting point in every Christian’s life. It is transformative in every way, demanding us to be loyal to God over every other thing. We should never be the focus, only the messengers.

Chambers also says, “When a crisis arises we have to find out what God’s will is, but the greater part of the life is not conscious obedience but the maintenance of this relationship—the friend of the Bridegroom. Christian work may be a means of the soul’s concentration on Jesus Christ.” In this time of world crisis, where we are all praying for revival and God’s mercy, it is even more critical that our foundation of faith and relationship with the Bridegroom is paramount. Through this unprecedented time, we have been provided the opportunity to “be still and know.” While everyone is looking for distractions during this period of isolation, we, as believers, can spend more time in devotion and prayer. We can deepen our relationship with the Bridegroom, and become better equipped disciples for Him. We can grow into the powerful warriors of love and truth that He calls us to be.

For such a time as this.

2 Chronicles 7:14 “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land.”

May God have mercy on us all.
