Eternity and Time

1/1/2022

James 4:13-15 “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make profit’.—yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that,’” (ESV)

Today I read something on social media about how a new year is an opportunity to write a 365 page book with 12 chapters. Thus asking, what will your story be this year?

God is everlasting and eternal, restricted by neither time nor space. We are bound by time, and this is evident at the beginning of each New Year when we reflect on what has transpired and what is to come. We cannot even truly fathom eternity, because we are ruled by time and space. This is our truth, both as humans and as God’s creation. So, how will I use this precious gift of time? Will I get bogged down in the mistakes and regrets of yesterday or the trials of today? Am I not called to a higher purpose? Will I, then, serve the God of Eternity with my finite time, surrendering to His call and His will? Or will I squander it further with anxiety and fear, anger and unforgiveness, regret and sadness?

I can do my best to write my 365 paged book, but in the end, what will it reflect? Will all of my 31,536,000 seconds honor God no matter what comes my way, and no matter how many twists my story may take? Will I put my faith in the true Author of my life? Only time will tell.

Note: Two years ago on this day, I started Blooms of Faith. I wrote the 366 days of 2020. I pray this year is a new chapter of my growing closer to my Savior and reflecting in writing here what He lays on my heart. I am excited for the journey to begin.
