Hebrews 13:15 “For He hath said, I will
never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
Do I, deep down in my soul, believe this to
be true? Of course my answer is yes, but do my words and actions reflect this
answer? Chambers talks about God’s say-so in not just the big trials of life,
but also in the mundane. Right now we are living in both realities. Covid-19 is
huge, protesting injustice and the unrest connected to it is gigantic, but the
way most of us are currently living day-to-day is mind-numbingly mundane. We are
living in this weird duality. The large world issues are enormous and fully out
of our control, and many of our personal worlds have become smaller and dull
with little to distract us. In it all, where does God factor into life? Am I
listening to His say-so in every area? Am I living the truth of this verse? Do
I turn to God and His word through it all, big and small? I will say that I
certainly am trying, but alas, I do not always succeed. Sigh.
Chambers said, “Sometimes it is not
difficulty that makes me think God will forsake me, but drudgery. There is no
Hill Difficulty to climb, no vision given, nothing wonderful or beautiful, just
the common place day in and day out—can I hear God’s say-so in these things?”
During this time, when we all seem to be just slogging through life, there is
an amazing opportunity for deep growth in our relationship with God. Am I going
to let this quiet time just pass me by, or am I going pray, worship, and
glorify God? When I go back out into the world, what will others see? Will they see the light of Jesus’ love
shining from me? I certainly hope and pray that it is so.
