2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”
Chambers writes, ‘The first thing Jesus Christ faced in men was the heredity of sin, and it is because we have ignored this in our presentation of the Gospel that the message of the Gospel has lost its sting and blasting power.” We acknowledge sin as a part of our faith, but we oftentimes focus on having victory in Jesus. Looking directly at our sin is difficult and painful, but so necessary in our faith journey. I can easily say I am a sinner, but do I really examine what that means? Do I recognize the sin in my own life and, with contrition, confess it all to God? Repetitive or unconfessed sin in my life can hold me captive with feelings of guilt and shame. Jesus gave His life to forgive all sin, both mine and yours.
Chambers writes, “Sin is a fundamental relationship; it is not wrong doing, it is wrong being, deliberate and emphatic independence of God.” To this I say amen and amen! Sin is wrong being. I am aware of going into sin when it is happening, and sometimes I stop…but sometimes I don’t. If I am upset with someone and feel justified to speak ill of that person, my emotions usually take over and I just get carried away. Yet I still know it is sin. It is easy to sluff-off the sinful thoughts or actions the world tells us are acceptable, but my God has higher standards for me. Why shouldn’t He? Jesus took every sin upon Himself through His shed blood, even though He knew no sin. He has redeemed me, so how can I ever be cavalier about any trespass—ever?
