All Have Sinned

10/5/2020

Romans 5:12 “Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”

All have sinned. I think this is a largely forgotten truth among all the hatred, anger, and mud-slinging that is currently happening in our country. All have sinned. Yes, we can make an account of the sins of others, and judge them for it, or we can rise above judgement knowing that the right belongs to God alone. I am a sinner, and so are all people. The only thing that covers our sin is the shed blood of Jesus and the grace of God. I feel that the more inward and selfish a creature I am, the more prone to sin I will be. The more aligned with God and loving I am, the more I will be able to recognize the log in my own eye.

Sin was brought into the world by one man, and another Man took it all upon Himself to free us, and so reconnects us to our Heavenly Father. Recently, I have said in more than one conversation that no one is beyond redemption. This is not my view, it is in God’s Holy Word. Paul considered himself the worst of sinners because he persecuted God’s people, yet he found redemption and spent the rest of his life spreading the gospel. He wrote the following: Romans 3:23-25 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace though the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of His blood—to be received by faith.”  Ephesians 1:7 “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” There is nothing I have done to deserve this endowment of grace, and there is nothing that anyone can do or say to keep it from me if I am truly repentant and accepting of that most precious of gifts. This is true for me, for you, and for everyone.

Yes, this is sometimes hard to contemplate or reconcile in our humanity when others have brought forth evil, but it is not for us to decide. Chambers writes, “Sin is a thing I am born with and I cannot touch it; God touches sin in Redemption. In the Cross of Jesus Christ God redeemed the whole human race from the possibility of damnation through the heredity of sin. The condemnation is not that I am born with the heredity of sin, but if when I realize Jesus Christ came to deliver me from it, I refuse to let Him do so, from that moment I begin to get the seal of damnation.” Strong and sobering words indeed, but there is no other way to be cleansed of sin. We must repent and walk in the light of our Savior’s grace and mercy, and we must extend the same to all those around us. As the saying goes, “There but for the grace of God go I.”
