Corinthians 10:5 “Bringing into capacity every thought to the obedience of
Christ.”
We are
living in an uncertain and volatile time. What is happening is not
unprecedented in the annals of history, as there have been many periods that
have seen raging pandemics, political turmoil, and social unrest. Most of us,
however, have never experienced this kind of disturbance in our everyday lives.
The world all around us is changing in so many ways, so how does that affect the
infallible, unchanging Holy Word of God? How are we, as Christians, supposed to
maneuver this world? The same way believers have done for centuries: by following
what the Word of God says, no matter the consequences. We must not, however,
pervert any part of the Bible to suit our own outlook or philosophies, or water
down its truth to conform in any way. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, “For
though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons
we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have
divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretense
that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought
to make it obedient to Christ.”
I find
comfort in these verses even though they speak of fighting, as I am an extreme
pacifist. However, knowing the Sword and the Shield that come from God are the
most powerful weapons against evil gives me peace. No scheme of man can change
this truth, as long as I am obedient to the Word. Nothing I do should be
impulsive; rather, I should be prudently, earnestly, and fervently seeking the
will of God through prayer and His word. Chambers writes, “We are apt to forget
that a man is not only committed to Jesus Christ for salvation; he is committed
to Jesus Christ’s view of God, of the world, of sin and the devil, and this
will mean that he must recognize the responsibility of being transformed by the
renewing of his mind.”
It is not
just my duty to be committed to my Savior for His gift of salvation, but it is also
something I will do the rest of my days with gratitude and joy.
Ephesians 6:8-18
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind,be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
