Obstruction

Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me.”

Today’s MUFHH study is particularly good. If you have a copy, I would suggest reading it.

Jesus is waiting for us to come to Him, always. Whatever our position in life, no matter where we have been or what we have done, He wants us all to come to Him. We all have a hole in us. It often gets filled with things of the world. Often times these things can be physically and emotionally harmful. They can be outrageous external things or quiet internal things, but they hold us back from the One who can fill that gaping hole. Nothing else in this world ever will. We humans can be a very stubborn lot. Yielding to the Savior and trusting in Him brings a new life and peace for a weary soul. In verses 28 and 29, Jesus says these words: “Come unto me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Isn’t that what we all truly desire, rest for our weary souls and healing for our brokenness?

Even as believers, we sometimes have trouble coming to Jesus. We sometimes try to fight our battles alone or find peace through other means. When we fall, we act as if we are able to hide things from God. We look for guidance and purpose outside of our faith. We fear what is being asked of us because we don’t believe we are strong enough to accomplish the task. Chambers calls every degree in which we are not truthful and real with God “spiritual impertinence”. However, he also gives this encouragement: “The Holy Spirit will show you what you have to do, anything at all that will put an axe at the root of the thing which is preventing you from getting through. The Holy Spirit will locate the one impregnable thing in you, but He cannot budge it unless you are willing to let Him.” I must always pray and be ready for the Holy Spirit to reveal that which impedes me from coming to the Savior.

Thankfully, Jesus – in His infinite patience – is always waiting with open arms saying, “Come unto Me.”
